Results of All-Age Weekend Away
14-16 November 2025
Our twenty-ninth annual golf trip away got underway on Friday in overcast conditions at Kiama Golf Club. The course was in great condition, lush and green, and fortunately the rain stayed away.
A group of nineteen players teed off from 10:00am and were refreshed by cold beer for the round. With a top temperature of 24 degrees, the last group of players finished the course around 2:00pm before heading back to the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club Cabins. The ‘nearest the pin’ on the front nine was won by ‘WC’ (Brian Saunders), while the back nine was won by ‘Bone Crusher’ (Michael Binnie). The ‘longest drives’ were both won by ‘Beer Barron’ (John Binnie).
Friday evening, the group enjoyed an excellent BBQ at the Warilla Cabins, feasting on delicious steak and pork sausages with onions. On Saturday, most attendees opted for an afternoon in the Club TAB or imbibing red wine, cured meats, and cheese next to the cabins. This was followed by another evening BBQ. Once again, a giant thank you to ‘Snags’ (Joe Papandrea) for organising all the meats and eggs food for our trip.
On Sunday we had nineteen players plus face the starter’s pistol for our second Stephen ‘Babo’ Babic Memorial Cup competition (four ball - best ball – best drive with no second shot – and the 2024 winners ineligible to win again) which was held at Links Shell Cove Golf Club with an 8:30am tee off. The weather was bright, sunny, and steamy with a top temperature around 29 degrees. The course, as usual, played long and was a little difficult to navigate.
There were five teams competing on the day. The ‘nearest the pin’ winner for both the front and the back nine was ‘Stroke’ (Gary Coleman) and ‘Lefty', while the ‘longest drives’ were cleaned up by ‘Willy’ (Matt Willis) and ’Chubbs’ (Tim Coleman).
The competition itself was fierce with a blanket finish and the winning team scoring just 5 shots in front of the fifth placed team of ‘WC’ (Brian Saunders), ‘Let’s-Have-A-Shot’ (Glenn Saunders), and ‘Willy’ (Matt Willis). The fourth placed team was last year’s winners ‘Sticks’ (Sam Iogha), ‘Shauno’ (Shaun Iogha), ‘Lefty’ (Nathan Iogha), and ‘Snags’ (Joe Papandrea).
The third placed team was ‘Phanto’ (Glenn Walker), ‘Little Phanto’ (Nathan Walker), ‘Dixie’ (Craig Dixon), and ‘Corporal’ (Lance Walker) who carded a 71. The second placed team across the line carding a 70 was ‘Stroke’ (Gary Coleman), ‘Chubbs’ (Tim Coleman), ‘Picasso’ (Pablo Puyo), and ‘Bomber’ (Steve Brown).
The competition winners were ‘Beer Barron’ (John Binnie), ‘Bone Crusher’ (Michael Binnie), ‘Quiz King’ (Ray Borg), and ‘Little Quiz King’ (Chris Borg). The winning team members were presented with the Stephen ‘Babo’ Babic Memorial Cup, and each team member received a commemorative plaque to mark the event. Well done, and congratulations men, but please remember you are now ineligible to win the 2026 competition!
We hope that you all had a very enjoyable three days and look forward to seeing you all again in mid-November 2026 up at Bateau Bay for our 30th anniversary golf trip away.
